What to know before you come:
This test will consist of 7 events all of which are set along a predefined course and are to be done in a continuous manner. This test was developed to allow the Town of Harrisburg Fire Department to obtain a pool of candidates who are physically able to preform the job tasks of a firefighter. This test is a pass or fail test that has a time limit of 7 minutes. Before beginning the test applicants must present there signed medical release form from their physician stating they are minimally fit to participate in the JRPAT. A pretest set of vitals will be taken prior to the start of the JRPAT and the JRPAT video will be shown. It is your responsibility to ask questions if you don't understand any parts of the test events or procedures.

JRPAT Events:
In all events you will wear a set of Structural Firefighters PPE (personal protective equipment) and a Scott SCBA (self contained breathing apparatus). During the test you will not be breathing air from the SCBA. The only exception to the PPE is you will be allowed to wear tennis shoes instead of the firefighter boots.
High rise hose carry:During this event you will carry a 100' section of 1 1/2' hose up to the top of a 4 story training tower. The hose needs to be carried on your shoulder and no running or skipping steps is allowed.

Hose Hoist: During this event you will pull a section of 2 1/2" rolled hose up to the top of the training tower. This needs to be done in a hand over hand fashion and the use of the railing to help is not allowed.

Maze: During this event you will crawl through a predetermined maze following a hose.

Keiser Machine Hammer: During this event you will hammer a weight backward between your legs. This will simulate a chopping method and is completed when the weight is to the other end of the machine.

Cone Traverse Walk: During this event you will weave in an out of a section of cones. This is a good time to help slow your breathing rate.

Hose Drag: During this event you will pull a charged 1 1/2" hose line a distance of 100'. This is the only event you are allowed to run in and is completed when the nozzle crosses the line.

Rescue Manikin Drag: During this event you are required to move the rescue manikin a distance of 100'. You are allowed to pick up the manikin or utilize a strap. The event is completed after the manikins feet cross the line.
After you complete the Rescue Manikin Drag you will proceed to a rehab area where a final set of vitals will be taken. You will be notified whether you pass or failed the JRPAT, and this completes the testing process. All passing candidates will be notified either phone, mail, or email of when and where to report to the next step in the hiring process which is the Applicant Interview.
