Official Statement from the Town regarding the Stallings Road and Raging Ridge Road Intersection
March 15, 2019
The Harrisburg community suffered a loss on Monday evening when a fatal accident occurred at the Stallings Road and Raging Ridge Road intersection. As always, we are grateful for our Harrisburg Fire Department, Cabarrus County EMS and Law Enforcement Officers for their responses to these types of incidents. Because this collision was fatal, the accident is still under investigation and the NC Highway Patrol cannot yet provide contributing factors. However, the initial report contributed a very high rate of speed by the motorcyclist involved.
The safety of residents and guests of Harrisburg is a paramount concern. The Town works closely with the North Carolina Department of Transportation on issues, concerns and future improvements of our roads, including the intersection at Stallings Road and Raging Ridge Road. This intersection currently rates as a very safe intersection with all the appropriate design controls. Although this accident does not appear to have been preventable by intersection improvements (due to excessive speed involved), the Town is coordinating with the NCDOT to investigate the possibility of adding intersection lighting. There is also a planned conversion of the intersection to a modern roundabout as part of the Stallings Road subdivision Traffic Impact Analysis. Roundabouts have a documented ability to reduce the severity of crashes when compared to traditional intersections.
We hope that this information provides some insight for residents to consider regarding the intersection at Stallings Road and Raging Ridge Road.
